Fly Fishing Magnifier – Magnetic Release Readers for Fly Changes

The net was very effective landing large trout in BC.I shortened the handle 6” which made it easier to wear on my back with a magnet release.

As a senior whose eyes are not what they were, I've been using standard reading glasses while flyfishing. It's a hassle to dig them out of your pocket, especially when you don't always have free hands. I like these because the magnet allows you to keep them close on your fishing vest, and can be pulled free and put on your nose, ready to go. The magnification is perfect for threading a fly or tying knots. The main issue I have is the spring clip design. It works in theory, but when I'm sweating, these do not grip as well as they do when I'm sitting in an air conditioned room. I find that unless you keep your head perfectly still while wearing them, they only grip my nose for a few seconds then work themselves loose. I also worry about the lenses getting scratched up as they knock against my zipper and nippers. Otherwise, worth the price.

These clip-on reader glasses from Hippo Outdoor turned out to be more versatile than I expected. While they’re clearly designed for fly fishing, I’ve been clipping them to my photography vest for quick access when I need to check camera settings, and even to a t-shirt collar for reading around the house.The lenses are crystal clear and give great reader magnification. The magnetic coupler clicks into place without any fuss—no need to look for it—which makes grabbing them one-handed very easy. They feel tough enough to handle being dropped or knocked around without worry.That said, the hard plastic nose grips are clearly intended for short use. They grip tightly and keep the glasses stable near the nostrils, but after a few minutes they’ll start to dig in. Still, for quick, on-the-go reading tasks, they’re extremely handy.

These have a really useful design and are very handy to use. With the options of lanyard, clip and magnet it makes these so easy to use. They are easy to grab and set on your nose and the magnification works perfectly for fishing and other things too. The only thing that would be better is of there was a little better price per piece or for a two pack

I just can no longer see details up-close as I once did. So I normally take a pair of cheap reading glasses with me when I fish so I can see the knots I am trying to tie. This set of fishing glasses appeared to be a perfect answer to my problem as they made for the task at hand.The glasses arrive as shown. I chose the orange lanyard (gray is also available). The plastic glasses are tied to the lanyard at one end. The lanyard is secured to a plastic clip at the other (the clip itself can then be attached to something of your choosing). The really cool thing is the small magnetic release which is on the other end of the glasses. You use this to secure the glasses out of the way (presumably while you are catching fish!). The glasses are entirely plastic (I cannot locate what kind though), but are optically quite good and are very light-weight. They attach to the end of your nose like the old pince nez glasses. They are held in place by two plastic tension-arms (sorry, I don't know what else to call them) on the glasses that are serrated.The way this system is built will be appreciated by many. I like how it clips to my life jacket when float fishing (and is the most significant reason for my ordering this). And the glasses certainly allow me to see what I am tying, as well as being one-handed to use.But there are a couple of things I am not quite buying into:1. Durability (scratches or breakage - especially of the tension-arms).2. Comfort. The listing says you can "Wear comfortably all day. " I guess this can read two ways as to wearing the glasses themselves, or wearing the lanyard. If the former, I would say not as the serrations are quite sharp (probably so they can grip the skin on your nose) and I think most people would only wear them for the time it takes to do what you need. If the latter, then that is an easy yes.This is a very creative, and well thought out, solution to the problem of easy access to optical glasses while fishing. I quite like it, but my four star rating is a cautious one due to my concern for their durability. I think if they can refine the design a bit more it would be a full five star rating. I also think the price is fair.

I ordered these for inspecting botanical specimens in the field, because a magnification meant for fly fishermen would also work great for small flowers. But after trying them, it seems that 2.5x is not strong enough for either purpose. I will try using them a while longer, but conventional readers on a lanyard may be more practical.GOOD POINTS- The concept is great: Minimal, with a snap connection for a D-ring on a vest or pack. The magnet retainer works well.ISSUES- Insufficient magnification. 3.5x would be more appropriate.- Uncomfortable. The serrations dig into my nose. In use, it fits better towards the tip of your nose.- Fragile. The plastic lenses will scratch easily and be hard to clean. The long curved nose prongs (image) don't look like they will last long.- Apart from the novelty, you don't get much value for the current price of $14.

These glasses are fantastic for anyone who needs a little close-up help on the water! The clarity is awesome, making it super easy to see what you're doing when changing flies or lures. I love that I can rest them on my nose when I need that magnification, and then they just attach and hang right from my vest when I don't. No more fumbling around! The polarization is also great for cutting glare.Super lightweight, they fit tightly on your nose, durable plastic, magnetic clasp is a win!Seriously, if you struggle with those tiny knots and hooks, these are a game-changer.  Great value 👍

these portable reader-type glasses are aimed right at fly fisherman specifically. they say they are not for reading per se but fly tying and fly fishing activities, but these are going to work great for my fishing pursuits (albeit with spinning reels and not fly reels). the cord and magnetic connection points will make it easy to have them on your person or to remove them or to attach to a fishing retractable tool clip. the nose piece has little ridges that help grip the bridge of the nose. now when one is outside and sweating on the water, we shall see. but it will be fine i bet and handling them is easy as not too small but not too big either. and slim, which is nice and makes then easy to tuck away. they seem pretty durable but being plastic, they are bound to eventually scratch, but thats true for any synthetic lens. overall for outdoor readers that arent for fashion, for sure; but who cares about that on the water. lets fish! i find these useful. I will report back if i experience any durability, manufacturing-related or functional failures, but i do not anticipate any.

My husband gave these a try, and now he won’t fish without them. He clips them right onto his fly vest and uses them over his sunglasses with no trouble at all. The magnetic nose clip fits comfortably and stays put, even when he’s bending over the river tying on a new fly. They are solid and well made and a great value.What he really likes is how lightweight they are. Love these little glasses. Not planning to use them for fishing, but for use at work.I drive a bus and usually am wearing sunglasses, but sometimes need my reading glasses. It’s a pain to swap out my sunglasses and reading glasses, so hoping these can hang on my shirt and I’ll use them as needed, at least that’s the plan…Great little design, very functional. With the magnetic clip and tether, they’ll be easy to use as needed. The nose piece adjusts really well; kind of spring loaded in a way.Lightweight and feels very comfortable.Hope this helps. I don't fly fish, but I do a lot of wade fishing in rivers and creeks. In the past I've carried a cheap pair of readers to use when changing lures. I just don't see good enough anymore to tie a knot without them. It is a pain to carry a separate pair of glasses in my vest pocket and dig them out every time and also try not to drop them in the river. These are gonna be great. I will still keep them in my vest pocket, but I will also have them clipped outside the pocket. That way they will be easy to retrieve from the pocket and the lanyard will easily be long enough to reach my face. They hold well to my nose and are very light weight. Note, my nose is on the smaller side. They are perfect for me at +2.5, which is the strength readers I use. The only negative I have is the cheap plastic clip. I changed it out for a small stainless clip with strong snap. This is personal preference and doesn't affect my rating. Other than that, they are great, they are functional, they are easy to use, they are easy to store, and they are a great value.

There are other minimalist options with lens protecting cases so if durability is a concern, think about those. For this item, I think accessibility while being active is the focus. If you are in the field, trying to read or work on small parts, this might be a better options, especially if your hands are occupied. I'll bring it with when fishing, hunting, and maybe out with the ATVs or kayaking so I don't need to worry about losing it overboard. When I'm at home, I just hang it off my monitor in case I need to read any fine print.You can never have enough reading glasses and Murphy's Law says that even if you have enough, none of them are nearby when you need them. So I'll just clip these on me and when I'm tooling around the house I don't need to hunt them down.The magnification is good enough to read medication labels but maybe not strong enough to find that little splinter. I find they are best placed further from my face at the end of my nose and when I do this they stay in place better than where a normal pair of glasses might sit (closer to your face).I do sort of wish they had a soft protective sleeve or something to prevent scratches. I'm using a spare sleeve that came with a pocket knife and it fits perfect.

Great concept and magnification for more than just fly fishing. The magnet idea is great and works well but the nose piece that grips your nose is effective however it doesn't grip real well. So it's good it's on a tether for when it falls off lol.It will stay in for a while, you just have to mess with it to fine the perfect spot on your nose.

I normally wear corrective lenses, but still find I need extra magnification at times. Not only while tying flies or tying flies on my leader. I also thought this would come in handy for other projects where two hands plus a magnifying glass is needed.Out of the package, first thing I noticed was that these are virtually flat and thin. This nose piece consists of 2 plastic protrusions that act as springs. They have tiny teeth on them to grip your nose.I placed them on my nose while wearing my glasses and that didn't work. Everything was blurry. So immediately I thought that this is going to be an issue on the stream if I need to remove my glasses first.So I tried them without my glasses and everything was in focus. Only problem being that it was no better than my glasses!I also think the little teeth on the nosepiece could be an irritant if you used them a lot, and the plastic lenses will definitely get scratched up easily unless you store them in an appropriate sleeve when not in use.On the positive side, the nosepiece does hold to my nose securely, it's got a nice 16" long lanyard setup, and they might work out for someone that needs a little extra magnification.
